Pilates was originally devised by Joseph Pilates as an effective workout for everyone no matter what their age or fitness level. It is great for rehabilitation from injuries and pregnancy. Joseph Pilates developed the technique during World War 1 and his time in an internment camp in Germany. Having practiced a variety of physical fitness techniques he developed Pilates as a series of exercises and training techniques to keep himself and other students fit and healthy. He taught a variety of students during his time from army and policemen to dancers and gymnasts. He taught in the United States with his wife Clara up until around the 1960’s and the students have continued teaching Pilates to their students worldwide.
